* O C T O B E R * I N S P I R A T I O N *

Updated: Oct 18, 2019

Autumn is here and so are the new season yarn and patterns. KAL’s are in full swing and it’s time to snuggle up with a new project, binge on box sets, and indulge in some me time.

Here is a run down of all the things making their way into my knitting plans this October

********************************************************************************************

First off, it wouldn’t be Halloween without a Boo Knits MKAL. The pattern this year is "Morningstar”. This is the third year I have taken part - you can see my previous shawls Gothic Angel and Apparition by clicking the links.

For this year’s shawl I’ve picked out some heavy laceweight yarn from Mad Scientist Yarns. Cosmic is a blend of 70% Merino and 30% Bombyx. The colourway I have selected is “Moonlight” which completely unsurprisingly for me is a muted grey purple. The beads I plan to use will be Miyuki in Dark Topaz.

The Morningstar MKAL starts on 1st October with the final clue being released 21st October. KAL chat is taking place in Boo’s Ravelry Group right now – Hope to see you there !

October also heralds the start of Woolly Hat Season, and I am so excited that this Autumn Woolly Wormhead has a completely new collection of six structural hat designs available in the “Convergence” Collection.This group of patterns explores line and form, using colourwork, texture and Woolly’s signature razor sharp construction techniques. My fave design from this set is Revolutions, which I must make time to cast on for soon.

Often imitated but no-one does hat architecture quite like Woolly. The Convergence Collection is available for Digital Download on Ravelry and Lovecrafts

For me wanting to cast on for *another* pair of new socks is a daily battle, but now it is (almost) October, I feel justified in giving in to my desire. The next sock yarn waiting to make its way on to my needles is First Light from The Fibre Fox. If you haven’t yet checked out Georgie’s stunning hand dyed yarn, go now and do so because there is a very high chance I may buy everything in her store.

You can shop the Fibre Fox on Etsy.

Nothing says “Autumn” to me more than snuggly aran weight merino. This truly stunning colour pack of Milla Mia in the “Forest Floor” colour way is currently in my “to knit” pile, just waiting to be made in to a baby blanket. Stay tuned for more on this project and maybe even some progress pictures later on this month.

The exclusive Alice Neal for Milla Mia Colour Pack is available from Lovecrafts

Finally, the a few more things I am enjoying this October are the Lush Halloween Bath Bomb Collection (Mercury Retrograde is everything) , reading Knitting Ephemera by Carol J Sulcoski (who knew knitting burns 102 calories an hour ?) and introducing my 8 year old to the Harry Potter Movie Collection And of course I must take this opportunity to remind you that the S T A R G A Z I N G sock and shawl patterns are now on Ravelry. Tag your projects with #stargzingshawl or #stargazing socks or just #missuscolumbo so I can see your stars align !

Whatever you are knitting or doing this month, let me know in the comments below or keep up with me on social media using @missuscolumbo on Facebook, Instagram and Ravelry.
